caused by a simple fall and not an accident or trauma. are examined and treated.
Explaining the cause of osteoporosis, he said: Aging is one of the causes of osteoporosis, and due to the increase in human lifespan, the incidence of this condition has also increased in societies. In this case, the bones do not have the necessary strength, if a person suffering from osteoporosis falls, he will most likely suffer a fracture. This type of fracture is more common especially in long bones such as humerus, wrist and hip.
Referring to the complications of osteoporosis, Najd Mazhar said: People who live longer are more prone to osteoporosis, and a person who has suffered a fracture due to osteoporosis is at risk of future bone fractures. As a result, in the whole world, osteoporosis places a very heavy financial burden on governments, and this causes health and academic authorities to take measures to prevent the occurrence of this disease.
He added: About 40% of people who have a fracture due to osteoporosis for the first time have the possibility of re-fracture, and the second fracture causes more disability and cost, and at the same time, it reduces the chance of a person's survival.
The head of the bone and joint reconstruction research center emphasized: In 1998, due to the understanding of the importance of osteoporosis or osteoporosis, non-governmental organizations established an institute in Switzerland called IOF (International Osteoporosis Institute). Then, in 2012, the Coordinated Prevention of Secondary Fracture System (FLS) was planned and launched by the International Osteoporosis Institute (FLS).
He continued about the operation of the FLS centers: for example, when a 60-year-old person suffers a hip fracture for the first time and comes for treatment, the fracture is treated and operated by an orthopedic doctor, and at the same time, colleagues affiliated with FLS cover the patient. and are examined. The patient has been subjected to specialized tests and bone density measurement and is being treated for osteoporosis by Sarkar University rheumatology professor Mrs. Dr. Zabihi. The patient's profile is entered into the system and the patient is contacted by phone at regular intervals and the treatment process is followed.
Najd Mazhar explained how to register on the website of the International Institute of Osteoporosis: After registering and checking the site, it will give you a flag. There are five flags in this regard. The black flag means they don't have any information about you, the blue flag means they got your information, but you are still under investigation whether to become a bronze flag or not? The next flag is bronze, when the activities are widespread, you get a silver flag, and if the system is well managed and works well in diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients, and has the necessary coherence, the flag turns into gold. The Gorgan center has received a bronze flag, but our center has directly received a silver flag, which is a rare occurrence. In fact, Yahyayan Healing Center is the first and only center in the country and the Middle East and North Africa that has a silver flag.
Regarding the criterion of getting the silver flag, he said: the number of registered patients and accuracy in following up patients are two important criteria, and it shows that the hospital has a lot of capabilities considering the number of clients and the registration of cases.
The head of the bone and joint reconstruction research center stated: We got very good results since the FLS clinic started working. With the training we gave to patients, they now
know that their first priority is diet and then medication.
He added: Currently, we are in constant contact with about 1,600 patients, and we have about 5 to 10 hospitalized patients every day who enter the FLS system, which of course varies. There are also a number of emergency patients who come to us on an outpatient basis and are discharged, and then they are followed up by phone calls.
